Owner Michelle Abela emigrated from Ireland to Australia in 2007. Having spent her whole life around horses, and having spent many years working and studying in numerous stables and studs in Ireland, Europe, and Australia, she decided to set down roots in the Victorian mountains overlooking Bacchus Marsh and Melbourne. From these roots grew Faraway Stud.

The name Faraway was chosen for the small boutique stud as it reminds her of home so faraway in Ireland.

Our two resident Stallions Red Rocky and Tir Na nOg are also irish imports and were hand picked to come to Australia from a line up of over 60 horses.

We are a small farm focused on producing quality Gypsy Cobs and Gypsy cob deritatives suitable for everyone, from the stay at home horse lover that wants the perfect equine companion, to the highly competitive go getter that wants a winning partner in crime.

All our mares are hand picked and have proven themselves to be calm, safe, and reliable, before becoming broodmares. They have proven themselves in many different disciplines and we are confident that we are using the best so that we are producing the very best to carry forward the Faraway Stud name.

Each year we produce a small number of foals as we value the quality of our stock much higher than quantity.

We encourage potential customers to come visit and meet our horses, so please enjoy browsing and we look forward to hearing from you.
